Helping Children with Literacy Difficulties (dyslexia)
Gloucestershire now has a website for schools and parents concerning children and young people with literacy difficulties. There are leaflets that can be downloaded for parents and lots of advice, substantiated by rigorous research, on how schools can best help. The website has information clarifying the problem of dyslexia and explains that its identification comes about via assessment of reading and spelling over time in schools. It therefore answers questions that parents often have about 'diagnosis' and what to expect in terms of a support package (ie Wave 3) when children need additional help. It also gives advice on how staff in school should monitor children and the rate of progress that should be aimed for.
