Rodborough's Curriculum
At Rodborough the children are at the centre of everything we do and we want every child to be the best they can be. Our curriculum therefore is ambitious, broad and built upon the National Curriculum and EYFS, and tailored to our local needs and school values. This is done in order to ensure that our pupils leave here ready for their next adventure in learning at secondary school and a valued citizen in our community.
Within our Rodborough curriculum, each subject is carefully planned in small steps to show progression in both knowledge and skills across the year groups, with ways to extend learning into greater depth thinking also identified. Our ethos, values and learning powers are integrated throughout all subjects as well as links to the EYFS curriculum, SMSC and Articles from the UNCRC.
Subject leaders, overseen by curriculum leaders, have been instrumental in developing our curriculum and school has invested heavily in quality CPD to support staff. We work very hard to ensure that all children are supported to access the curriculum and succeed. This is done in many ways, depending upon the need of each individual child. Differentiation takes place in all subjects and assessment helps teachers to plan next steps. Supportive strategies have been implemented to develop children’s ‘long term knowledge and working memory’ and we are monitoring the impact of these.
We are extremely proud of the extra experiences we give all of our pupils here at Rodborough, to enhance our curriculum. At the start of Autumn 1 the whole school focissed on @We are Rodborough' to build our sense of community and look at 'real' history and change. We have three trips or visits out for eachclass each year, as well as inviting visitors in and local walks. Team Days, themed weeks or days planned by the staff and/or the children also add a fantastic dimension to what makes Rodborough a great place to learn.
Underpinning all aspects of our curriculum are:
(i) Our Rodborough Learning Powers (designed by children) aimed at ensuring all our children become life-long learners through:
(ii) Our Rodborough Values, directly linked to the 'British Values' which ensure that as a school community:
- We value and respect uniqueness, listening to the views of individuals and promote respect for all cultures
- We value the spiritual and moral development of each individual, as well as their intellectual and physical growth.
- We value the importance of each individual in our community and the wider world, planning our curriculum to promote inclusion, co-operation and understanding among everyone in our community
- We provide equal opportunities for all individuals, striving to meet their needs and ensuring each person can be successful
- We value the environment. Through our curriculum we aim to involve everyone in our school community looking at ways we can take care of our world, not only for ourselves but for future generations.
The Children in our school have designed their own celebration stickers for when they display these values and wording which can be accessed and explored at greater depth in an age appropriate way.
So what are our key aims at Rodborough School?
We want our curriculum to enable all the children to become:
Enthusiastic and successful learners who make great progress and achieve or exceed their potential.
Positive, confident individuals who know how to live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives.
Responsible, respectful citizens who can work and co-operate with others and make a positive contribution to society.
